I have been considering becomming a personal chef for several years now. It scares me to death to make it my sole income. I have talked with my daughter about making phone calls to possible clients in our area and taking a survery to see if there would be a demand for a pc in my area. What does anybody think of this idea?
I too am just starting out (in the Fort Worth area)and am scared also of taking the plunge. Currently I am still working, although its only 3 six hour days a week right now.
I cooked 1 meal today for a friend. She paid for the food and gave me a small 'tip' for the time I spent making the meal (it honestly took me less than an hour). She is the type of person who has lots of connections so I am hoping that experimenting with this type of job on her will get me some referrals.
Has anyone else had experience with doing these dinners on a small scale for just a little cash? I think it will be a good PR vehicle for me just starting out. The family I cooked for is one of my best friends so they know I am also using them to experiment (when I cook I make enough for both of our families so that I can get more critiques of my food).
You might want to try to find a busy Mom who you can experiment on while getting the hang of being a PC.
Sharon Ann I use to cook for a family when I was babysitting their daughter. That really never lead to anything. I work a full time job and average 48 to 70 hrs. a week, so it would be hard for me to even get started without quiting my job now.
