Dunno why you don't want to attend a class...it certainly won't be any cheaper to take the course online (or not by much anyway). From my understanding there is a course online...however, when it comes to taking the actual exam you have to have someone there since it is not like an open book type test. So, no the test itself cannot be done online, as far as I know.
I ask because the serv safe website is unclear and not any better at the local Health Dept either.
I've done a lot of volunteer work at the local baseball stadium serving and cooking. They require ALL vendors to have a current food handlers certificate on site.
I've been to the training and testing several times and it's getting a bit old. I still can't get a straight answer why the stadium has to keep the cert card and they won't give it to me to keep. Maybe it's because the training and tests were free. Or it's a special thing that only lasts a year. But that seems strange because I think the cert is good for three or five years(?) Whatever the case, If I didn't have to go down there again it wouldn't break my heart at all no matter the cost.
I guess I'll get the right answers at the seminar...
Wow...that is weird. Hopefully we can get a straight answer on this. Of course, anytime dealing with any public official, you run the risk of not getting straight answers or worse yet...different answers! It's great that you are attending the seminar...I'm guessing the one in San Diego...you will have a blast & walk away with so much invaluable information.
I talked to Candy and decided to go with the option "b" and get the one day food safety training here local. I'm off to bother the health dept. wish me luck!
