I live out in the country, 7 miles from the nearest town, with my mother. Needless to say, I hate it. I want to move to Raleigh, and I'm wondering if I would be better off to start my business now and try to move later, or get a "real job" to save up money, and then move and start my business. I know a few of you have established your business and then moved and I was wondering whether you would recommend it or not.
Is this business "portable"? Why, yes...that being said...please fill out your profile....so we know where you are at presently, & where you want to move...also, what is the time frame of moving? 6 mths, a yr, tomorrow...next month??? We can better help you with a tad bit more info, okay?
All I have to say is that I travel well past 7 miles to most of my clients. Although I do have a fairly new one that is maybe 2 miles away from my house I can say that I travel anywhere from 10 - 60 miles away for everyone else. As a matter of fact I just took on a new client who is about an hour drive away. In times like these....you gotta do what ya gotta do.
I live near Snow Hill, North Carolina, and want to move to Raleigh, which is about 75 miles away. I'm not sure what's missing from my profile but I'll be happy to add anything you think is missing. I would like to move within the next six months, but of course, that will depend on whether I can save enough money in that time.
Dinnermaker, this is about relocating to another city...not how far clients are....wow an hour? You're lucky...to get anywhere in Houston damned near in an hour sometimes better than.

so you want to move in 6 months...I would suggest that you get things lined up there now...first get a "real job"...you are going to need the money to not only move but for a DBA for Raleigh, food safety course, draw up a biz plan, buy Chef Candy's book or better yet, get the full training materials to help you on your way. Good luck....and you'll make it sooner or later.

I recently moved from Massachusetts to North Carolina and I would advise you to first move and then register your business in your new county/town, as every county/town has different rules and regulations. By all means, start getting your business ducks in a rows by developing a business plan, professional membership, training materials, website, menus, pricing, etc. That way, all these things are in place when you move and you can hit the ground running in your new area!
