Hello, I have been browsing the post, all day today! I ran across this site at my local library someone on the computer before me didn't log off your site, well it caught my eye because Im in the process of planning a business. I Love to cook Im a health-nut! Im studying for my personal trainers certification. Im starting college again to take the need classes to become a Nutritionist. I want to offer the clients I train, and help prepare for fitness competitions healthy food options already prepared. I also would like to democratize Healthy whole Foods so cooking for clients and educating them on healthy eating is my goal. To start this business what exactly do I need to start cooking? I noticed a comment by Mr. Garcia saying there is a way to store the food with out freezing? Would this work for fresh service? I was hoping to do a binto box lunch of healthy foods for clients.

Hi, Angela,

Welcome to APPCA. There are quite a few steps to getting a personal chef business off the ground, like getting insurance, food safety training, business license, etc. The APPCA materials lay everything out--too much to discuss in a forum posting! Also, Chef Candy Wallace literally "wrote the book" on the subject, The Business of Doing Business as a Personal Chef.

There are many different ways you can take this business--it's all up to you.

However, as far as being able to "store food without freezing," food will only last in the client's refrigerator for so long. It depends on what you've prepared, but for most things, I tell the client to get things in the freezer within four days.

Good luck and we're here to help.
