I am a housewife and I absolutely love to cook. I recently decided to start a small catering business to make a little "mad-money" but the licensing and regulations are more of an investment than I'm looking for. I found out about the Personal Chef industry and I was wondering if I have to have any licensing or permits to do this? From all that I have looked into this far...this looks like my cup of tea...if I can bypass all of the legal mumbo jumbo. Any suggestions or comments?

Welcome to the open forums! Every state is different regarding whether as a PC you require a license, need to obtain a food handler's card, or even subject to collect any sales tax. A good starting point is at your town hall or local city's tax office. Also, many states have their own web site where you can research info on small biz start ups plus rules & regulations related to getting started. Check with local health dept. to see if food handler's cert. is required. Even though some states don't require this, it wouldn't hurt to take this class to learn more about safe food handling and food sanitation isssues. Good luck!
