Im in the business planning stages and I hope to be ready to start and Join APPCA by spring 2008. Im trying to start marketing and get a good feel for my client base. I was asked eactly how I plan to charge by a friend and honestly how do I set a simple service fee, and how can I estamate how many clients I need to make a certain income. My goal is $50,000 a year at least I plan on about 5 clients maybe four. If I cahrge 350 plus groceries how can I guesstimate how much I can llok to make? I just want to set financial goals for myself. I understand I have to build a client base but please explain how I can set finincial goals. How many clients do I need and how much should I charge to make my take home pay worth starting this business. Thank You!

Well, you already have the basics.

Figure you want to work, what, 50 weeks a year? Then $50,000 divided by 50 equals $1,000/week. Say you want to work 4 days per week, reserving the fifth day for paperwork, research, and the occasional dinner party, that means your "base fee" needs to be about $250/day.

Of course, you cannot expect to be always "fully booked", so you need to increase that to a point you are comfortable with.
