Thanks, Terry! So many APCA members have posted messages in the Member's Forums and have even sent donations to the San Diego Red Cross Fire Relief funds for which we are all very thankful. You all have big hearts and we appreciate your support!
I was finally able to get home to San Diego last night once flights were cleared to land regularly again. It's so good to be home and able to do something other than watch it on the news from a hotel room.
We could smell the fire and see the smoke an hour out of town on the plane and seeing the flames from the air was really creepy. The Firefighters are calling this fire "The Beast" and saying it's the worst they ever seen in their careers since it's considered to be dynamic, unforgiving, and particularly destructive since it is moving and changing directions so fast. So many of our beautiful communities are simply gone. It's impossible to describe. The winds will be 20-30 MPH again today and tomorrow which is considered dangerously high, so the fire crews aren't getting any breaks, but they've been able to bring in relief crews from out of state and badly needed equipment as well.
We put out a call to local APCA chefs as soon as I got back and we are organizing this morning to be providing food as a team to crews and support personnel starting later today.
