Hello- My name is Jennifer and like the thousands that have come before me I am taking the plunge and becoming a personal chef. I already ordered and received the training materials from the APCI. I am very excited about getting started and I was wondering if any of the personal chefs in my area wouldn't mind me tagging along during one of their cheffing days. I live in Austin, Texas and am looking forward to hearing from any of the personal chefs in my area. I was trying to write this message in the members forum, but I just registered today and it is not letting me have access. I also have a couple of questions and would love some feedback. Can anyone tell me about IVEX containers? How much they cost? Where you can find them? Also does everyone have a food handlers license and is it required? Last, Do you need a business license? What does it mean if you get one? I have already registered my business name, but do I need a tax number? Thanks!
Jennifer Mance

Hey, welcome!

If you haven't been through the forum archives, start now! A lot of your questions are answered there, a lot more will be answered in your kit, and the rest we're still hashing out in the members forum, LOL.

Don't worry about a tax ID number -- it's your social security number. The only time you need something more is if you are either employing others or selling items on which you'd collect tax. (and so far, pc's have managed to avoid that regulatory mess....)

Good Luck and see you inside!

Hi Jennifer! I'll be happy to put you in touch with some of our wonderful members in the Austin area if you give me a call. You can give me the username you registered for the Member's Forum at the same time so that I can go into the software and grant you access. Talk to you soon! Candy

If you are in Texas, your state tax number is not your social security number. Also, unless you charge groceries plus fee, you might be required to collect sales tax as a reseller of the food. Also check whether you are required to collect salas tax on the service you provide. Lots to look at but better safe than sorry!! Mitch
