Good Morning Fellow PCs,

This is an off the wall request but would help me tremendously. I am taking a Food History class and have a project that requires some research.

The food item I selected is the Tamale. Having lived in several Latin American countries I have found several different varieties. If anyone knows of books that cover the historical timeline of Tamales, Origins (Spain or Indian), or has any knowledge it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

R/
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

A food history class - how fun! Perhaps you've already done some web research, and these links will be of no use to you, but on the off chance they are...

http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/tamales.htm#History
http://www.tamarastamales.com/his.tamale.html

The first link also advertises a few tamale related books, and if any of them are of interest to you, you might want to try looking for them at half.com first.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Hi Patrick,

A good book to look at with a resourceful introduction is Tamales by Mark Miller, Steven Phyles, and John Sedlar.

It is believed that the aztecs created tamales.
Being a second generation Mexican American. I still hear stories of my great-great grandmother who use to carry lunch out to my great-great grandfather and grind corn for tamales from scratch to be cooked on an open fire.

Good luck with your research, Leticia
