I have spent alot of time researching the PC field and share much of the enthusiasm that I have read in the forum. It appears that most people concentrate on the PC aspect of cooking for families and then add on another service.
Years ago, when my children were young my sister, mother and I would get together on a Sunday and each cook 3 meals. We would then split them up amongst us and we would be set for the week.
I am thinking of specializing in this idea, I'm sure it's not new...and complimenting that with in home cooking classes, entertainment dinner parties.
I understand, however, that this can not be done in my home, unless I had a commercial kitchen which I don't. Too bad, because my kitchen would be perfect for something like this.
I have been on the phone, it seems like forever, with people from the state and county to better understand the rules for teaching cooking classes, and seem to be getting no where.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Please keep in mind that rules vary according to where you conduct your business. It is my understanding that teaching classes is providing a service, so you can teach classes in the clients home as long as the food will not leave the premises. I teach in-home(client's home) all the time. Local health officials have a hard time figuring out how to handle our businesses because they differ from the norm. That is why Candy Wallace is such a great asset. She paved the way originally when no one knew what a personal chef was.
Be sure to tell the health department that all of the food will stay in the client's home - you will not transport any food EVER and you should be fine. But again every area is different.
