I'm wondering what those of you do for health insurance if you do not have a spouse 'in the corporate world' who can cover you under their insurance. Group coverage even for an S-corp or LLC isn't available until you have at least 2 employees; and independent coverage is soo expensive. I'm looking long term here for when I'm able to do this full time.
Kathy - we are in continuing conversations with various insurance brokers almost all the time searching for affordable coverage for our members. We have the same problem, because we don't control our members activities (like a franchise) you are considered individual self employed for insurance purposes.
We are meeting again tomorrow with a broker that we have been talking to for some time and hopefully they will have some information for us that will be helpful. They indicate that they do.
Kathy, I think you may have misunderstood. APPCA has tried numerous times to get affordable health insurance for their members. In fact at one time, we even thought we hit the jackpot, but it turned out not to be really beneficial for the self employed. And no APPCA, has not given up....and I can't wait to learn what this new broker says!
Kathy - Jackie is right, we've been in talks almost continuously for years with brokers from all over the country. All of them say, "Yea, we can do that." Then when they get all the details we never hear from them again. I know at least two different companies have even come to our annual summit to pitch their product and what a great job they are going to do for us...and then we never see them again.
