Hello to all, I was a member here several years ago when I had a personal chef service in Michigan, The Portable Pantry. For the last almost three years I have been working as a private chef in Cincinnati for a family I met when they were summer clients of mine in MI at their vacation home.
I've been looking for a place to network with other private chefs and wow, is that hard to find! I was excited to see that Candy had expanded to include private chefs and to see that there are at least a few here on the visitor's forum. Actually the all over expansion is pretty impressive from seven years ago, congratulations Candy!
Although I've been a private chef for three years, this is my first private service job other than cooking on yachts years ago. Also, I'm the first chef that my employers have had full time, so it's been a learning experience for all of us. I would love to have a place to use as a sounding board for advice, somewhere to commiserate when I'm feeling overworked and under-appreciated (not often, but it does happen) and especially a place that will respect confidentiality which is sooo important when working as a private chef. When I tell friends what I do the first thing they ask is who I work for and how much money do they have, and of course I can't answer either question and they don't always understand.
Anyway, I plan to join again soon, either on my own, or I can propose the professional organizations I want to join and my employer will finance one or more.
I just wanted to say hi to all and to Candy (if you remember me, it was a long time ago). I'm looking forward to becoming a member and being to able to touch base with other personal chefs.
