My name is Glenn and I have just placed my order for the business material. A little about myself.
My background is working in restaurants for 15 years, as well as time spent cooking in the Officer's Mess onboard an aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. This is where I received the majority of my culinary training, as well as what I learned working in various restaurants over the years.
Almost 8 years ago, I became permanently disabled with heart disease and my ex-wife left me over this. I am now re-married to a wonderful woman, who is very supportive me and we have agreed to have me start my own personal chef business. I have a strong compassion to not only cook, but to cook for others and share that talent with people. The joy on the people's faces when they taste your cooking is just reward enough.
I cook gourmet style meals almost every night for my wife and I cook for my friends and family when they give me the chance. Why not get paid for it?
So, I have been reading some of the posts in the visitor's section of the forums and people seem very nice and helpful here. That is appreciated. I look forward to meeting many of you.
Welcome to APPCA. You will find the information in the forums very inspiring. If you have a chance try to attend one of the seminars when you can. Good luck!
Thanks for the welcome, Coontree. I served aboard CV-62 USS Independence. Can actually say, I miss her. I so wanted to go to her decommission, but was unable to attend.
Know the felling. Ya hate them and love them at the same time. They are ya home, ya familly for so many years.I wanted to go say goodby to ol 66 but was not able to make it. I spent time on the Fulton, Conny, Nimz, and America. Most my time was spent with USMC. I was a Corpsman for 20 years. still have nightmares. But really miss that way of life. Good luck with ya Personal Chef Biz. all the cooks I know onboard really know what they were doing. You won't have that fast of pace in this biz. Go your own speed, and cook the way your heart fells and ya do just fine. There is a great bunch of folks here to help ya and support ya good luck
Many thanks. Yeah, people here have been very helpful. Also, at my age, that fast pace is a thing of the past. Don't know if this body could keep up in a commercial kitchen anymore, let alone on board an aircraft carrier. LOL
