Hello there everyone,
My name is Denise and I have been lurking in these forums the past few days now. When I finally was granted access to post I literally shouted YAHOO! Why? Well since I have been reading through your forums, I feel as if I have found a place that can help me get over the fears and anxieties of quiting a traditional job and going into business for myself. I am a music teacher in Reno, NV and I just don't feel like my life is going in the direction it was meant to go in. I can't "see" myself in this same spot in 5, 10 years. Every morning when I wake up, my mind immediately goes to cooking and how it makes me feel. I absolutely love doing it, especially doing it for others. Origanlly I wanted to try and open a restaurant (which still could happen down the road), but then I found PC'ing and you guys, and said WOW, this would be GREAT! I love personal, one on one interaction with people, and most of all I LOVE to cook, so HUZZAH! I said...PERFECT! I want to thank you all for being so supportive to all of us newbies. I am going to be "lurking" here and asking questions until I can afford to pay for the training materials. You know us poor teachers, we don't make a whole lot so I think it will take awhile to save up. Where is that money tree when you need it? LOL! Anyway...if there are any Reno-ites reading this, please email me. I would love to pick your brain. I don't have the first clue where to start (I know the training packet would help me...but alas! No monies, no training, for the time being.) Well, time to go..another class of children coming in soon. Talk to you all again soon, Denise <3 goodfoodreno@gmail.com |

Dear Denise, Welcome!!!
Keep all your dreams and start writing them down! The more you think about them and the more you review your notes the closer you get to having the first draft of your business plan. And, since you love to cook, start testing recipes and keeping records and building a little black book with menu ideas, freezing and heating instructions. This forum is full of wonderful tips, ideas and business sense. There are many, many small steps that you can take to get your dream closer and closer based on what you read here. By the time you get your PC kit, you’ll see that you are way ahead of the game. Culinary regards, Luisa |

Hello Denise and also welcome,
I agree with Karen & Luisa, if you are going to dream, why not dream big, why can't your dreams come true? No reason at all with a lot of hard work which by the way when you are doing something you love it doesn't seem like a lot of hard work, it is exciting. Make sure that you get Candy's new book on being a personal chef, start testing with family and friends. Make a goal list, start with things that are not too difficult to achieve. Make sure that you look at it everyday, for us we put in on our bathroom mirror, you can not help but to look at it. Start taking baby steps and before you know it, your dreams start taking shape. For us, joining the APPCA was like joining an extended family that changed our lives forever. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Happy Holidays, Ronetta |
